Residential Segregation and Violent Injury in Oakland, California

This thesis looked at the associations between the level of diversity in a neighborhood and the amount of violent injury that neighborhood experienced. Data were geocoded from Highland Hospital (Oakland, CA)'s trauma registry to find out where violent injuries occurred in Oakland, then census data used to calculate a measure of diversity on the neighborhood level.

Results, in general, found that neighborhoods that were more diverse had lower rates of violent injury.
